D-9

I'm sitting here in the airport in Vegas...waiting for our flight to board and I'm bored!
I started to look through pics I have taken in the last year and I realized that i missed blogging this.
It's a Disappearing 9 patch that I began in April during a Quilt-a-Way weekend.
I have nearly 20 blocks finished and I have a cute idea for the border. I plan on using the cement 'almost' solid Hunky Dory print for sashing. I used 4 different Moda lines plus a few other fabrics. Besides Hunky Dory, there is Celebration by Sandy Gervais, Sweet by Urban Chiks, and Simplicity by 3 Sisters.  I wanted it to be scrappy and yet used the Hunky Dory in the center for all the blocks to unify them.
One thing I noticed as I was sewing with pre-cut charms...is that charm packs from 3 or 4 years ago are not the same size as the ones today. This caused some issues with my piecing..but it's fun.
Okay we're off.....

Very pretty! I have only made one D-9 but it was simple and fun to do. It was a baby quilt in red, yellow and blue. I made the centers all red so that it would give some cohesion to the quilt. I like a "planned" scrappy like you!

That is going to be a beauty! I'll have to keep the charms size in mind for some of those charm packs I've been hanging on to! Thanks!

The different designs look great together. I love the scrappy yet co-ordinated look.

Very pretty! I did one recently using a Moda Kashmir II charm pack, with pale yellow, peach, and blue solids - the blue was my center square so it repeated throughout the whole quilt. It came out very nice - very pastel but peaceful!

were you by chance waiting for your plane at D-9 too, because that would be too funny!!

and just for the record "charm packs" by manufacturers other than Moda are slightly different too. All the way up to 6"!
