The topic of the day is a holiday tradition that has to be done no matter what.
I have thought long about this.
Do we have a tradition? hmm I am not sure we do.
We split holidays between Ohio, Iowa, Texas, Florida, and South Carolina.
It's tricky. This year we spend one "Christmas" in Iowa...but it's during Thanksgiving weekend.
Needless to say I am frantically trying to finish my hand made gifts for everyone in Iowa. By frantic, I mean I have 7 quilts to bind by Thanksgiving Day.
Ah these aren't tablerunners...
We're talking 48" and larger.
I have 2 done. That leaves 5 in 6 days.
Whew...could be an I.O.U. kind of year.
Then we spend another "Christmas" in Texas in December. I am not so frantic about that one...yet. LOL
And lastly we spend the "actual" Christmas in Ohio with our kids.
Skipping Florida and South Carolina this year.
Well actually we are leaving after the 25th for SC.
Oh right, back to traditions...I guess our tradition is to celebrate Christmas as many times and as many places as humanly possible each year ;)

ReplyDeleteOh yes, we have several Christmas celebration, starts in KC on Thanksgiving and will end in CA on January 1! I love spreading it all out a bit! I only 2 quilts to bind and a month to do it, I'd help if I was closer...lol.

ReplyDeleteWow, hopefully you are traveling by car and can do some of the sewing there, on the way. I commend you for taking on writing this blog on top of it all.
ReplyDeleteOK- anyone can tell that you need to slow down....a cup of coffee and your cookies today should do the trick! Of course, you can't bind a quilt using both hands to eat. How about doing those bindings on the machine? Much faster!

Are you planning on sleeping any before Thanksgiving? LOL!!!! Good luck with your bindings. It can probably be done, but the ole' fingers will take a beating! We do not usually have to travel much for the holidays as everyone is close at hand. thank you for sharing your recipe.
ReplyDeleteGlad I don't have your busy holiday traveling. You never know what the weather will do from hour to hour here in Nebraska, so we usually make last minute plans. But, now, our children don't live further than 5 miles away from us in two different directions, so, it is much easier for us. I hope you do take time to enjoy Christmas and don't feel so rushed. I believe everyone has a special ginger cookie recipe. They are all so yummy! Thanks for sharing. Read you tomorrow on the last day of toeing. HUGS... and stitches

ReplyDeleteWe're staying pretty close to home this year. Our son wanted us to come down to TX but that's not happening. So it will either be here or over at our daughter's. I'm collecting all these recipes and crafts and making a little Cookie Cookbook.

ReplyDeletethe past few years, since I had my daughter/graduated college and stayed in my college town (so five christmases counting this one) we have hd a small Christmas here at home, I usually go to work in the morning since my hubby doesnt get up before noon anyways (and I get time and a half PLUS great tips) then brunck, nap, santa/christmas, dinner bed....but in Jan the girls and I go out to my folks and do it again there THEN take down their decorations
