Progressive Dinner Fresh Fabric Treats & Giveaway !!

Words can not describe how excited I am to be part of the Moda Bake Shop book Fresh Fabric Treats.

There are 15 authors participating in the Progressive Dinner to introduce you to this new book.
I don't know about you, but I had to look up the definition of progressive dinner.
I didn't even know dinners like this existed.
I live in a small town and we have potlucks LOL.
After this virtual progressive dinner...I am itching to try a real one!
Before I get off on too much of a tangent, let me introduce myself to new readers of my blog.
I'm Vickie.
I have been a sewer/crafter since I was 8 years old. I started with basic Barbie doll clothing and journeyed through cross stitch, crochet, miniatures, scrap booking, card making, cake decorating, knitting and quilting. I settled comfortably into quilting about 12 years ago while I was training to be a dentist. I have been a dentist for 10 years, married 11 years and have 2 lovely daughters. My time is little and precious as you can understand. I have always been searching for ways to streamline my quilting time. And that is where my love for Moda pre-cuts grew. I realized that sewing with pre-cut charm packs, jelly rolls etc. was a much quicker way to get right to a project. I enjoy all aspects of quilting, but make a part of it faster, easier and more enjoyable....I am there!
In addition to helping me sew more efficiently, I have found pre-cuts to really work well for my mother-in-law. Over the last 10 years she has had an increasingly more difficult time cutting fabric. She has had carpel tunnel surgery and the less cutting the better.
 Pre-cuts are awesome for this!
They truly are.
With the right pattern she can just sit and sew.
I don't mean for this to sound like an infomercial.

I just really love/believe in jelly rolls and layer cakes.
Can you tell by the picture above?
Where else can you find such wonderful "sweets" without a chance of a cavity??
Oh, Come on, I HAD to put that in there.

{I promise that is the last dentist pun for this entire post}
As I was saying,
I blog my creations and share tutorials to help all moms {and dads ;) } enjoy their quilting time more, the same way I do.
I have been very very fortunate to be a part of Moda and Moda Bakeshop for the last 2 years.
You may recognize some of my recent Moda Bakeshop Projects:

I hope to continue to create more fun projects for the bakeshop throughout 2011 as well.

So back to why you are here.
For fun and giveaways of course!
Here's a sneaky peak at what's inside the new C&T Publishing book.
You can pre-order them now and they are even on Amazon.

I can't tell you much about what I contributed.
I can tell you that it isn't in the picture below.
LOL :)

A few creative peeps ended up on the back cover
...at least I think that is the back cover? I haven't seen the entire book yet.

If you would like to win a copy of the book and my favorite Moda pre-cut, currently a fat eighth bundle.

Leave a comment stating what is YOUR favorite pre-cut and WHY...cause curious minds {mine} want to know :)

The book and pre-cut (fabric line yet to be determined) will be shipped sometime in May when the book is available.

*Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you*

I will randomly select the winner on January 28th.
If you do not respond in 72 hours or I do not have a valid email address, I will chose an alternate.

The Grand Dessert (prize) is a fat quarter bundle, fat eighth bundle, jelly roll, layer cake, and a charm pack (a $200 value!) from Moda.

FQs are wonderful for the flexibility (and fabric!) they provide. However, charm packs are much more affordable and just darn cute!

Personally I love the layer cakes best, but I love using any of the precuts!

Good Day! First off...CONGRATS!

I have two favorite cuts...the charms and the layer cakes. Charms because...well...hmm. You can just slap on a white on white and get tonnes of half square triangles! I love layer cakes as I can cut circles out and still have enough to use elsewhere.

Robin in Texas said...

It is really hard to pick just one, I love all fabric. But if I had to pick one I would pick charm squares.

Bree said...

I'm a fat quarter lover, myself. I love that I can get two layer squares PLUS a few strips for binding, or a bunch of charm squares out of them. They're the perfect taste of a fabric line and totally versatile..
although, I got a fat eighth bundle of 12 days of Christmas the other day, and it's pretty perfect for my needs, too, so I might just shift that opinion later on. :)

marcella said...

I still love jelly rolls the best - must be true that there's something special about your first love :-)

Jenny said...

I adore jellyrolls! There's just always an awesome + simple pattern for them! :-)

Fat quarters. The more fabric, the better. Congratulations on the book. I can't wait.

Lexie said...

My favorite is the fat quarter bundles because they are so versatile.

Pattie Crum said...

I use jelly rolls most but I also love fat quarter bundles, they look so pretty in a group on a shelf, yes I know that's not what they're for.

Melody said...

Congratulations on the book! My favorite cut is the layer cakes - so easy to make up a quilt / or cut in to smaller pieces / squares for different patterns!!

Christy said...

Hmmm. It's a toss up between charm packs and fat quarter bundles. Probably fat quarter bundles -- plenty of fabric! Can't wait to see the book!

Jen said...

I am not sure what my favorite it yet. The only one I have worked with is a jelly roll and that was wonderful.

I really love fat quarters - they are so versatile. You can use a larger piece or a smaller piece to a quilt - the creativity is personalized. The more fabric - the better. rpshandATnsDOTsympaticoDOTca

I love ALL the precuts. It really depends on what project I have in mind to determine which one is my favorite. I must admit, all I sew with now is Moda Precut fabric.

Congratulations on the book! I love charm packs because I like to make pinwheel quilts - and I am no good at cutting.

Congrats on getting in the book and my favorite precut would be layer cakes, they have lots of versitility for cutting ajmoerler at gmail dot com

Tiffany said...

I love all the pre-cuts but charm packs were my first love last summer when I received my first sewing machine and started quilting. I love that for $8 or less I can get a sampling of every piece of the collection to use to my heart's content. 5 inch squares are great for mug rugs, blankets, pillows, TONS of projects that I love to make!

Ila said...

I think I love them all...So far I love charm squares and jelly rolls! I'm a beginner and haven't tried layer cakes or fat quarters yet. Your work is Gorgeous!! Congratulations on the new book...and TFS!!

Kathy H said...

I think my favorite precuts are the charm squares. Now that there are so many patterns available to use, I love them. Usually there is no cutting involved and having a sample of a whole line is great.

Julie Earsom said...

I like charm squares the best because I can get a sample of all the colors without a large expense. I would love to purchase some jellyrolls for strip quilts & purses and FQ Bundles for quilts, but the budget just doesn't allow it right now. :(

Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Hi Vickie, My favorite precut is having charm packs. For a small amount of $ I get one of each of a new line to touch....... Then if I really love some of them I can go purchase yardage!

Dot said...

I must admit I love a good FQ, but a charm pack is hard to beat for the price!

Dot

domestiCass said...

I would have to say my favorite pre-cuts are FQ's simply because they are big enough to do most of the other pre-cut patterns with plus you get to have some left over. Charm packs are awesome too because I don't feel guilty spending $5-$10 on one to check out the prints in RL before I dole out the money to buy more yardage of each.

Lisa Smits said...

My favorite pre cut changes every day! Last week I couldn't do without it's a hoot, I bought three jelly rolls and a layer cake. And they are almost already gone! This week I am loving Sugar Pop, I made a quilt from the bakery in three days start to finish and it looks amazing! I love the modern prints and colors and all that pop!

Amanda said...

Oooooo, I love fat quarter bundles... I'm just a fabric hog and can't get enough. LOL

Jenna Z said...

I LOVE layer cakes, they are SO EASY! You can make a whole quilt out of just the squares, or you can cut them up smaller and piece them into something fantastic!

pojeda said...

I love all the pre-cuts! I haven't used them yet, because I am too busy petting them! LOL!
Really though, I like the charm squares the best because you can make half square triangles or a 9 patch and get busy making a quilt!
I would love to have a copy of this book! It looks like so much fun! Besides, anything Moda works for me! I am a Moda fabric addict!

Brittney said...

My favorite precut might be a tie between charm packs and jelly rolls. Charm packs because I can whip up quick and adorable baby quilts without having to think or cut a single thing (which is awesome). Jelly rolls are also great because you can do many different blocks without too much work - stripes, zig zags, postage stamps, etc. My favorite thing about precuts themselves is that I can get a whole group of coordinating fabric, perfect for a scrappy looking quilt, without having to mix and match from my stash.

MaddyMazeStudio said...

I love charm squares. I can do so much with them.

Shirley Pando said...

I love fat quarters just because there's so much more to love!

Matt and Rachel Bowden said...

I love jellyrolls. Mostly because their is a lot of tutorials to make quilts from them. I hvane't really tried anything else yet except charm packs.

I'm so impressed that you have any time to quilt, let alone design, with your busy life! You give me inspiration. Right now my favorite pre-cuts are layer cakes. They make up quickly, and as a result, I was able to make two quilt tops fairly quickly. Honestly though, I love them all. Congratulations on being part of what I'm sure is an awesome book. Can't wait to see it. :)

Brynn said...

If my budget isn't involved, I love fat quarters. When I'm being good, though, charm packs are a fun, quick way to get to know a line of fabric :)

Oh, I may need to steal this comment intro (♥ bring sunshine to my day with your comments ♥) for my own blog, I love that sentiment! Too true.

My favorite precut is probably a charm pack. I love how little they are and how easy to make a sweet little patchwork quilt they can be. But honeybuns come in a close second. I just wish they came in more fabric options! I love that width!

Nicole said...

I love layer cakes because I am not such an expert sewer and do better with big pieces. And they're pretty!

I love the FQ bundles. I just worked with my first jelly roll and found the pinked edges hard to work with. I guess practice makes perfect?

I like fat quarters best, but sometimes opt for a different pre-cut due to the present project or depth of my wallet at the time.

OI..I'm not sure I can choose just one pre-cut. ;) I think right now, my favorite would be charm squares, as I've done several projects in a row with them. But I also love jelly rolls.

Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed your story. I love pre cut charm squares because you can get a variety of fabric to enjoy without buying the whole store! (Although that would be fun!) I also agree with you that pre cuts are faster and easier to work with.

But I can see benefits to all of them - to fit the specific project. I think they are wonderful!

I'm new to precuts but I'd think jellyroll would be my favorite. Lately my mind is designing in strips! Greatly enjoying this progressive dinner! Thanks!

I never have used pre-cuts, but I sure would like to get my hands on some and try them out to see if I would like them.

I really love those massive fat quarter packs, the ones that have the whole line in them , heehee. Sadly, they are SO expensive !!

I guess my favorite pre-cuts right now are charm packs and layer cakes. Love the layer cakes because you can cut them down to charm packs and so much more. I have a fat eighth that I bought but I just haven't decided what to use it for yet.

Congrats on the book and the great giveaway!

I love the Scraps thing you show on your blog. I have millions of flannel scraps from diaper making and am trying to find something wonderful to do with them for my grandchildren

I love fat quarters, maybe just because that is what I am used to but all fabric is good!

I like layer cakes. It's so easy to cut so many shapes from them! But charm squares are pretty nice too.

My favorite is Charm Packs because I taught my daughters to sew using them. My 6 year old made her first Charm Pack quilt last summer and won a blue ribbon at the county fair! Thank you for the chance.

I love jelly rolls because they look so yummy all coiled up and then you get to unwind them and find all the great fabrick in there.

I am so new to quilting. I'm just making aprons with the jelly rolls and fat quarters. I hope to make a baby quilt and then by the end of the year, hope to make a quilt for my king-sized bed! yikes! LOL I can't wait for the book. It looks so promising!

I love the jelly rolls. Mainly because the quilts I have been making this works the best. But I love how you can sew a bunch together and quickly make different patterns.

Cara said...

I love jelly rolls best, mostly because I love the name! But I'll take fabric any way I can get it. ;)

I'm into fat quarters - it's big enough to do almost any kind of project.

I really like charm packs (and the mini ones!) for grab and go sewing!

OK I have been stating this wrong the whole time. Oh well, my favorite precut is fat quarters, but I use the jellyrolls the most as they are more economical. I do buy fat quarter packs sometimes though. Its just easier to purchase the jellyrolls and they are so easy to use. Looking forward to the book.

My favorite pre-cut is the layer cake, so many options to make amazing blocks!

It might be the layer cake... It's big chunks, you see the fabric well, you can make something on the spot or make smaller parts. It speaks to me, but I like the idea of most of them!

Hello :) I like Jelly Layers! Combining jelly rolls and layer cakes makes so many patterns easier.

I love jelly rolls, there seems to be no end to their creative use.

I've made a couple of jelly roll quilts and love how easy it was. Very little cutting and so fun! Thanks Moda and congrats on the book.

My favorite precuts are the fat quarter bundles because there are just so many possibilities for what you can do with that much fabric.

I love, love the jelly rolls picture!! That is my dream!! Your blog looks great and I will be one of your new followers!!

My fav is the jelly roll. Its the perfect size to make a small little quilt. Plus who doesn't love that awesome ribbon tied around it.

I like charm packs because they can be used for anything (coasters.... up to quilts, I've made them both)!

I love fat quarter bundles the best because I feel like they give me the most flexibility of the precuts. Nothing more frustrating than envisioning a pattern, but you don't have one contiguous piece big enough for part of it!

Vesuviusmama said...

I've never used a pre-cut, so I don't have a favorite, but I think I'd love a jelly roll.

nrnoodle said...

My favorite would have to be the jelly roll. I have some of all of them but my tower of jelly rolls seems to grow faster than I can use them I just love to look at them stacked on my book shelves. I think my second favorite is the charm packs. It is fun to get a little taste of so many great fabrics.

ShadyB said...

My favorite pre-cuts are actually Fat Quarters (because they are so versital), however, I do really enjoy/am partially addicted to Jelly Rolls as well. :) Mainly because they save me so much time, but also because with a good Jelly Roll you can get a "taste" of entire fabric collection - without breaking the bank.

Love the MBS Progressive Dinner! I’m always looking for projects to use all these pre-cuts I keep compulsively buying.
